There are nombreusesraces dogs. About three-quarters of those recognized are very old and from natural selection on morphology, combined with artificial selection on behavior (examples: Siberian Husky, Berger de Brie). The last quarter came from a recent artificial selection (examples: German Shepherd, Golden Retriever); they are often modeled as the most popular at the convenience of man. Some dog breeds were created from crosses in the past. Today, so that a dog can be called a pure breed by law in countries governed by laFédération Cynologique Internationale (including North America and Europe), it must be recorded in studbook of the country of birth. Without these records, a dog, although they appear to belong to a race, could have crosses in her pedigree and should therefore be considered as such by law [3], [4].
It is also a designation for several other species of canids typeAtelocynus etSpeothos or derongeurs of genreCynomys (prairie dog).
