The Hamsters grow to 10 cm-18 cm (4 "to 7"), usually females are larger and weigh more.

Hamsters have short tails, large bags cheeks, small eyes and a variety of coat colors. Hamster length hair can vary, some may have short hair and others can have long hair.

Adults are generally 10 cm to 15 cm (4 "to 6") long and females can reach up to 18 cm (7 ") long. They have no hair on their feet, 4 feet of their front legs and five on its hind legs.

The skin on a long haired hamster is thick and fluffy, like cotton, rather than the skin feeling velvety short hair. For this reason, people who are not allergic to short haired hamsters can be allergic to long hair.

If you have a female hamster, remember that they are in heat every four days, and a strong odor. Be sure to keep your hamster in a well ventilated area to reduce odor, but be careful keep warm and avoid drafts.

An important fact about hamsters is their solitary nature. Although raised as part of a litter once they reach around 10 weeks of age, generally do not tolerate other hamsters company.

Hamsters have short life cycles, averaging 2-2 ½ years, although some can live up to four years. Syrian hamsters live typically no more than two or three years in captivity, unless in nature. Russian Hamsters live approximately 1.5 to 2 years in captivity and Chinese hamsters 2.5 to 3 years.

Hamsters are great family pets because they need very little space and are easy to care, either sex that an animal just as good.

Long haired hamsters bear or stuffed animal are very cuddly, but require more care as they need regular grooming. Dwarf hamsters are very cute, but not all are suitable as pets for children. Russian and Roborovski Hamsters tend to be friendlier and easier to handle.

What is for you?
There are 24 species of hamster, but only a few of them are kept as pets. The best known are the golden hamsters, or Syria, but you can find other types of hamsters in pet stores today. There are many different colors and textures hamster layer. -Haired hamsters are the most common, but there are also long haired hamsters known as teddy bears for his appearance. Hamsters satin coats are short, but very soft and shiny, while Rex Hamsters are wavy coats. You can also buy dwarf hamsters, which are only about 7 cm (3 ") long. These are very entertaining as they dart and jump around, but make sure you get a type, such as Russian, which is easy to handle.

The hamsters like to live alone
Hamsters are territorial. They always live alone in nature and prefer to live alone in the wild. If you put two hamsters in a house, they will fight and may even kill each other. The exception is dwarf hamsters, who are happy to live with other hamsters of the same sex.

Where should you buy the hamster?
You can buy at pet stores or local breeders hamsters. Wherever you buy, make sure you are in a large cage, clean and staff or breeders are knowledgeable, and the hamster is used to being handled. When you buy your hamster should be between four and eight weeks of age. Hamsters are ready to leave their mother and are the easiest to tame this age.

Signs of a healthy hamster
The hamster is likely to be asleep when you visit your pet store or local breeder. Once awakened carefully, must be curious.

A healthy hamster should have:
• Bright, clear eyes, round, wide open and have no discharge
• Clean Ears
• glowing skin
• Clean the underside and tail
• The rounded body
• The nostrils clean and easy breathing
