Cats as pets are the most popular pets among people as it is relatively recent domestication because this animal usually living in neighborhoods with others of their species from the wild.

Cats are an important part of the mythology of different cultures within which we can include Scandinavian civilizations, China, Japan and especially the Egyptian. One of the main features of the cats is that they are hunting animals, and in the case of cats that inhabit the fields or farms often live in a semi-wild, hunting mice, rats and insects to eat often, and sometimes by simple hunting instinct. Meanwhile, domestic cats catch mice, insects and small birds, but in this case they do to play with them, however, one of the main reasons why people prefer cats over other animals is their habits of cleanliness and ease of care.

Domestic cats are descended from species that are believed to have gradually abandoned its wildlife to coexist with people, who were attracted by different parasites that are clustered in human communities. In the present domestic cats are divided into different genetic groups, in which we can find genetic traces of five female ancestors for most feline breeds, and precisely these genetic traces which indicate that domestic cats are descended from wild cats of Middle East.

Most of the breeds we know today are divided into those long-haired cats and short haired cats, both mestizos, because the cats breed or purebred, comprise only 10% of the global feline population . With regard to the domestication of cats, it is usually associated with the Egyptian civilization and it is believed that the Egyptians began to domesticate circa 4,000 to. C. to get out of the barns to keep the rats and mice. On the other hand, it is known that cats in Egypt used to be sacred animals and for this reason, those who killed a cat was punished with death. On the other side and forward in history, in the middle ages, was related to cats with witches, so that at the time of the Inquisition, used to burn them alive and often, thrown from very high peaks in dates festive. These beliefs led to condemn the black cat as a symbol of bad luck, a belief that today is very much alive among certain people.
