Guinea pigs originated in the Andean region of South America, now known as Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru. They were a food source for mountain tribes around 2000 BC a year. They are still used today as a food source in that area. They also live in the remains of families and are used as pets or collectors of evil spirit in healing ceremonies. Europe trade Quinea Pigs transported to Europe, people saw them as exotic pets.

Where Guinea Pigs get their name and why?

No one knows for sure how much the guinea pig came to be called a "pig." They are not really pigs but are larger rodents. However, they tend to make sounds that are very similar to that of a pig. National guinea pigs usually are kept in plastic cages with bedding of softwood shavings. They are kept indoors, they are unable to manage exposure to the elements or predators.
